Dependencies Template
Use the Dependencies template to create, modify, or delete metadata dependencies.
Download the template from the Bulk Action wizard.
Template details
After you download and open the template, you can view the following tabs:
Dependencies tab
The Dependencies tab displays all existing dependencies based on the fields you selected in the Bulk Action wizard. If no dependencies exist, the table appears empty except for the column headers.
In this tab, you can:
-
Create metadata dependencies
-
Modify existing dependencies
-
Delete unwanted dependencies
This tab includes the following columns:
-
dependant_key_id: ID of the child metadata field.
-
determinant_id: ID of the parent metadata field.
-
dependant_value_id: ID of the child metadata value.
-
determinant_value_id: ID of the parent metadata value.
-
id: Unique ID of the dependency. RedEye generates this when the dependency is created.
Parent_Determinant tab
The Parent_Determinant tab lists the metadata values for the parent metadata fields. Use the determinant_key_id and determinant_value_id values to define dependencies in the Dependencies tab. Do not edit or change any values in this tab.
This tab includes the following columns:
-
determinant_key: Name of the parent metadata field.
-
determinant_key_id: ID of the parent metadata field.
-
determinant_value: Name of the parent metadata value.
-
determinant_value_id: ID of the parent metadata value.
Child_Dependant tab
The Child_Dependant tab lists the metadata values for the child metadata fields. Use the dependant_key_id and the dependant_value_id values to define dependencies in the Dependencies tab. Do not edit or change any values in this tab.
This tab includes the following columns:
-
dependant_key: Name of the child metadata field.
-
dependant_key_id: ID of the child metadata field.
-
dependant_value: Name of the child metadata value.
-
dependant_value_id: ID of the child metadata value.
Create dependencies
Create relationships between metadata fields. This helps ensure logical value selection, filters available child values based on the parent, and improves usability. Learn more about metadata field relationships.
If the selected child metadata field has no existing dependencies, the Dependencies tab in the template is blank. It includes only the headers.
Each child metadata field can have only one parent. If a child field is already dependent on a parent, you can’t link it to another parent.
-
Go to the Dependencies tab.
-
In the first empty row, enter:
- dependant_key_id:
- Go to the Child_Dependant tab.
- Copy the dependant_key_id for the child metadata field.
- Return to the Dependencies tab and paste the value.
- determinant_id:
Go to the Parent_Determinant tab.
Copy the determinant_key_id for the parent metadata field.
Return to the Dependencies tab and paste the value.
-
dependant_value_id:
-
Go to the Child_Dependant tab.
-
Copy the dependant_value_id for the same child metadata field.
-
Return to the Dependencies tab and paste the value.
-
-
determinant_value_id:
-
Go to the Parent_Determinant tab.
-
Copy the determinant_value_id for the same parent metadata field.
-
Return to the Dependencies tab and paste the value.
-
-
id: Leave this field blank.
- dependant_key_id:
-
Save the file.
Modify dependencies
Remap or replace existing dependency in the Dependencies tab. You can replace the parent metadata field by changing the determinant_id and determinant_value_id or replace the child metadata field by changing the dependant_key_id and dependant_value_id.
Each child metadata field can have only one parent. If a child field is already dependent on a parent, you can’t link it to another parent.
-
Go to the Dependencies tab.
-
To modify a parent metadata field in a dependency, change:
- determinant_id:
Go to the Parent_Determinant tab.
Copy the determinant_key_id for the parent metadata field.
Return to the Dependencies tab and paste the value.
-
determinant_value_id:
-
Go to the Parent_Determinant tab.
-
Copy the determinant_value_id for the same parent metadata field.
-
Return to the Dependencies tab and paste the value.
-
-
id: Leave this field blank.
- determinant_id:
-
To modify a child metadata field in a dependency, change:
- dependant_key_id:
- Go to the Child_Dependant tab.
- Copy the dependant_key_id for the child metadata field.
- Return to the Dependencies tab and paste the value.
-
dependant_value_id:
-
Go to the Child_Dependant tab.
-
Copy the dependant_value_id for the same child metadata field.
-
Return to the Dependencies tab and paste the value.
-
- dependant_key_id:
-
Save the file.
Delete dependencies
Delete incorrect or outdated metadata dependencies. When you download the template, the Dependencies tab shows existing relationships if the selected child metadata field has values linked to parent metadata values.
To delete a dependency, delete the determinant_value_id of the parent metadata field in the Dependencies tab, then save the file.
When you upload the template, the system deletes any row that has a missing determinant_value_id.
